my lobe-finned fish!

the final creature in my report for geology yay!

these fish amaze me the most. they're our ancestors. it's their kind that first walked out of the seas and later evolved into other things. i wonder what it was like.. the first time, breathing air.. or the first time looking out of the water and seeing an unknown world... then colonizing =p

Crossopterygii (Devonian fishes)
By 360 million years ago, movements in the Earth's crust brought Scandinavia and the Maritime provinces of Canada together, forming a great north-south chain of mountains between them. Seasonal rains swept mud and sand into a broad, shallow lake in eastern Quebec, which then lay on the equator. These deposits, which can be seen at the Musée d'Histoire Naturelle de Miguasha, contain the most diversified and excellently preserved fish fossils known for the period, including the famous lobe-fin eusthenopteron.
Juveniles inhabited quiet, deeper waters while adults, with their more powerful tail fins, frequented the shores. Related to the ancestors of the amphibians, they used their muscular, paired fins to move through the shallows and raise their heads above water to breathe. The lobe-finned fish possessed lungs as well as gills. When overcrowding occurred in the water, some of these fish, using their fins as rudimentary feet, took to the land and changed from gill breathing to lung breathing. In switching from sea to land, some of the fins of these primitive fish evolved into feet, the rays of the fins.

Cool fish. This one looks better then the last one. :D
Hee hee, very nice. It kind of reminds me of an ear of corn turned into a fish. :D Nice background information provided as well. I like how everything looks. :)
This is cool. :D If you look at it, the face kinda looks like a turtle so it's understandable that it evolves into one that walks the earth.
